Football Association (FA) chief executive Martin Glenn will step down from his position at the end of the 2018-19 season.

In a statement released by the organisation, Glenn was praised for having delivered much of what he came to do and leaving strong foundations for his successor .

Glenn was appointed to the role in 2015 and his first major tournament with the FA ended in ignominy, as England were knocked out Euro 2016 by Iceland at the last-16 stage.

Manager Roy Hodgson resigned and Glenn s tenure was further hit by Sam Allardyce s embarrassingly truncated spell as Hodgson s successor.

But England regrouped under Gareth Southgate and enjoyed a superb run to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

A Glenn Murray brace helped Brighton and Hove Albion claim a fine 4-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday, moving four points clear of the bottom three and ending their visitors five-match unbeaten run.

Chris Hughton s men, who had won just one of their previous eight in the Premier League, were in charge for almost the entire match, with the excellent Murray dominating and leading the way with an imperious performance.

West Ham United are interested in signing Nayef Aguerd from Rennes in the summer transfer window, according to . The report has claimed that West Ham wanted to sign the central defender in the summer of 2021 and will make an attempt to secure his services again at the end of the season.

Hammers manager David Moyes was keen on bringing Aguerd to London Stadium at the start of the season, but a deal could not be sorted, and the defender eventually signed a new deal with Rennes. However, West Ham have now revived their interest in the 26-year-old, who is valued at £20 million.

Chelsea have announced the signing of striker Gonzalo Higuain, who joins the Premier League club on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.

Higuain spent the first half of the campaign on loan at AC Milan but struggled for form, scoring six goals in 15 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri. 

Juve confirmed in a statement Chelsea have an option to extend the loan for a further year, spanning the entirety of the 2019-20 season, if they pay a fee of €18million.

There is also a purchase option included in the deal, with Juve receiving €36m if Chelsea opt to buy the player.
