Palermo have announced on their official website that they have signed defender Salvatore Aronica from Napoli.

The experienced defender has signed a contract until June 2015 and will be officially presented to the press on 2nd January.

Aronica, 34, is club’s first signing of the January transfer window, with at least few more players likely to follow as the Rosanero battle to avoid relegation to Serie B.

The highly rated defender had just six months left on his deal with the Azzurri and arrived at Renzo Barbera for a nominal fee.

After making his Serie A debut at Juventus in 1997, Aronica played for Reggina, Crotone, Ascoli and Messina before joining Napoli in the summer of 2008.

The Nerazzurri have earmarked the 23-year-old as a valuable addition to their roster, and are expected to complete his signing shortly.

Thomas Tuchel will not go easy on former side Mainz when Borussia Dortmund travel to the Coface Arena on Friday.

The 42-year-old led Mainz to the highest Bundesliga finish in their history in 2010-11, taking fifth position in the top flight.

Premier League champions Manchester City and neighbours Manchester United have been linked with 26-year-old Italy international midfielder Jorginho.

West Ham defender James Collins cannot wait to return to Wales when his club face Cardiff in their Premier League season opener.

The 29-year-old Welshman started his career at Cardiff, signing as a trainee when he was 16.

He spent almost five years at the club, making 86 senior appearances.

The Wales international left the club in 2005 to join West Ham, and after moving to Aston Villa in 2009, he returned to Upton Park last season.
